Since its inauguration in 1949 Assen has hosted a Grand Prix every year, first on the road and then, starting from 1954, on the track also known as Dutch TT. The circuit is located next to green embankments that host numerous grandstands and in 2002 modernization works were completed, with the addition of new structures. The track was then modified in the winter of 2005, reducing the length of what was one of the longest tracks in the world championship, almost 6 kilometers, to 4.5 kilometers.
The Assen Circuit is a mecca for motorcycle racing, as important to the two-wheeled brigade as Indianapolis, Le Mans or Monaco is to those on four wheels. Winning here is an achievement that riders appreciate more than any other.
